One of my favorite things about being a Campbell High School IB senior photographer is creating a session that feels completely different for each person. Senior portraits should be more than a few pretty pictures—they should capture the interests, personality and individuality of the person in front of my camera.
For this Campbell High School senior, that meant an evening filled with beautiful light, wildflowers, ballet, books, open fields and one spectacular Georgia sky.
A Campbell High School IB Senior Session
As a student in Campbell High School’s International Baccalaureate program, she has spent her high school years balancing an incredibly rigorous academic schedule with the things she loves outside the classroom.
Campbell’s International Baccalaureate Magnet Program draws motivated students from throughout Cobb County and offers an internationally recognized curriculum designed to prepare students for university study. I love getting to photograph seniors whose interests and accomplishments give us so much inspiration for creating a session that is truly their own.
For her session, we incorporated one of the things that has been an important part of her life: ballet.
Senior Pictures That Feel Like You
My goal for every senior session is to create more than a gallery of traditional portraits. I want each senior to have images that are beautiful and timeless, but also photographs that could only belong to them.
We wandered through fields of summer wildflowers, found beautiful pockets of golden light, incorporated her ballet shoes, and photographed until the very end of the evening.
And sometimes staying until the very end pays off in a way you couldn’t possibly plan.
Chasing the Light
One of the reasons I love photographing seniors outdoors is that no two evenings are ever exactly the same. Light changes. The wind changes. Flowers come and go with the seasons. And occasionally, the sky decides to become part of the session too.
As the sun disappeared, the sky turned into the most incredible shades of peach and pink. Of course, we had to keep shooting.
The resulting photographs ended up being some of my favorites from the entire session.
