I tend not to share much of my event work on my blog, but a cause so important deserves a mention. I shot this event for the Fore Hadley foundation, a charity that raises awareness and money for a rare birth defect called CDH – Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. If you’re like me you’ve never heard of it before, so here’s the small portion I understand. CDH happens in utero when the baby’s diaphragm is starting to form. When it doesn’t form completely, a hole, or hernia, in the diaphragm allows some of the baby’s other organs to enter into the fetal chest, often blocking the space needed for normal lung development as a result. There’s a wide range of outcomes for babies with this diagnosis, while some go on to lead normal lives, others are unable to survive despite skilled intensive care.
After losing their daughter Hadley to CDH in 2015, Ryan and Katie Bush recognized the need to support the community of others who have fought hard against this as well. And so they created the Fore Hadley Foundation. Their mission is to provide hope, opportunity, and support to the CDH community, and to inspire others to join the fight to eliminate this birth defect. You can read more about Fore Hadley, CDH, and make a donation on their website. From shooting their annual pre-party event and the golf tournament, I can tell you they put their heart and soul and endless hours of work into their foundation. They have wonderful (And fun!! Just look at the pictures!) friends and family supporting them, and I know the money they raise is already making a difference in the CDH community.
The big weekend started out Friday night with “Tee up the Taps” held by the beltline at Paris on Ponce. This venue is incredible – it began in their “Monaco Gallery”, a light and airy industrial styled room, where everyone had drinks and apps and the Foundation members kicked off the weekend with speeches. The crowd then moved to their “Maison Rouge” room – a very french, lowlight club with the coolest vibe. And we rounded it out the following Monday at the North Druid Hills Golf Club with a full day of sun, drinks, golf, and giveaways. Here are some highlights, I hope you enjoy them and hit up their donation page if you feel inspired to do so.
