If you’ve read my other blog posts, I’ve probably said it over and over again that I love in-home newborn photo sessions! First, in-home newborn photography is just easier for parents. No need to pack up baby and the millions of necessities to get out the door to a studio. And you can take breaks to feed baby in your own comfy bed or favorite chair. But also, its a fun challenge as a photographer to work with different light, and it just has such a sweet, personal feeling that makes each session uniquely it’s own.

This in-home newborn photography session in Marietta was right around the corner from my own house. I’d photographed this sweet family for a maternity session just a couple months prior so we could jump right in this time around. And now with a baby girl in the mix! I brought a selection of neutral and soft pink wraps and tie backs (photographer lingo for headbands) and a couple little baskets and bowls. I loved the beautiful rug in baby girl’s nursery, and it made the perfect backdrop for the individual shots of her.

When I photograph in-home newborn sessions, I usually orchestrate big snuggle sessions in the master bedroom and the nursery – I love capturing families piled up on beds, snuggling that sweet new baby. That’s how so much time is spent those first few weeks after you bring your little one home, maybe the reality is messier hair and leggings, but its about as close to natural as you’ll get from a photo session.

This nursery window made all my indoor light dreams come true. A little fun fact, for all the images up till this point, I used off camera lighting – a strobe – and for these next few I just used the window. When natural light is this soft and pretty you just can’t beat it.

I love seeing how tiny a new baby is in her parent’s arms. It just melts me every single photo session.
