Senior year is such a unique season—somewhere between the person you’ve been and everything that’s waiting ahead. As a Creekview High School senior photographer, I want senior portraits to capture more than what you look like right now. They should feel like you.
For this Creekview High School senior session, we met at Birmingham Park in Canton, Georgia for an evening filled with open fields, wooded trails, rustic textures and the kind of golden light photographers dream about.
My goal with every senior session is to create a gallery that feels natural and personal while still giving my seniors something a little unexpected. We make the portraits parents want to frame, but we also have room to play with movement, light, interesting compositions and more artistic images that make the finished gallery completely unique.
Senior Pictures in Canton, GA
Birmingham Park was such a beautiful location for senior pictures in Canton. One of the things I look for when choosing a senior photography location is variety. I don’t want an entire gallery to feel like we stood in one pretty spot and simply changed poses.
This location gave us so much to work with without ever needing to leave the park. We moved from open fields and soft evening skies to rustic wooden textures, wooded paths and pockets of beautiful golden light.
With a simple outfit change and the changing light throughout the evening, we were able to create completely different looks while still keeping her finished gallery cohesive.
That’s one of my favorite parts of planning senior sessions: finding a location that gives us room to create. Rather than repeating the same pose against the same backdrop, I’m constantly looking for changes in light, texture, movement and perspective.
A Custom Senior Photography Experience
Being photographed doesn’t come naturally to most people—and it doesn’t need to.
You don’t need to arrive knowing what to do with your hands, how to stand or which side is your “good side.” Guiding you through all of that is part of my job.
During senior sessions, I give plenty of direction while leaving room for natural movement and real expressions. We’ll walk, sit, move, laugh and try things that may feel a little silly for five seconds but look completely natural in the finished photograph.
The result is a gallery with variety: beautiful portraits looking directly at the camera, relaxed candid moments, close-ups, full-body images and more creative photographs that feel almost editorial.
I also pay close attention to how a complete gallery works together. My goal isn’t simply to create one beautiful senior picture. It’s to create a collection that tells the story of this particular season in your life.
Senior Picture Ideas for Girls
One of the easiest ways to create variety in senior pictures is through wardrobe.
For this Creekview senior session, we photographed two very different dresses. Her shorter floral dress was perfect for the open field and rustic areas of Birmingham Park, while her long blue floral dress completely transformed the second half of the session.
And then the light changed.
As we moved closer to sunset, the woods filled with warm golden light that looked incredible with the blues in her dress. Those later images have an almost painterly quality while still feeling completely like her.
When helping seniors plan what to wear, I usually recommend choosing outfits that aren’t simply different colors, but that give us different opportunities for movement and posing. A flowing dress photographs very differently from jeans, for example, and including that kind of variety helps make a senior gallery much more interesting.
Senior Portraits That Still Feel Like You
Trends will change. That’s inevitable.
What matters most to me is creating photographs that won’t feel dated the moment the next trend comes along.
I want parents to have the beautifully finished portrait that belongs on the wall, but I also want seniors to see photographs that actually feel like themselves—not an overly posed or overly perfected version of themselves.
That balance between timeless portraiture and creativity is at the heart of how I approach senior photography.
