As a Walton High School senior photographer, I love creating sessions that feel completely personal to each senior. For this session, we chose two outdoor locations that gave us totally different looks—from wooded trails, old stone ruins and a creek to open fields and beautiful golden-hour light.
What I loved about this session was how much variety we were able to create. Her long blue floral dress and cowboy boots were perfect against the stone, woods and water, and the warm evening light coming through the trees made the entire setting feel almost magical.
A Rustic Location for Walton High School Senior Pictures
The old stone ruins were one of my favorite parts of the session. I always look for locations that give us more than one obvious backdrop, and this area had so much to work with—stone walls, huge trees, wooded paths, a small waterfall and the creek nearby.
Moving around within one location also keeps senior portraits from feeling overly posed. We can create the classic portraits parents love while also making room for images that feel a little more adventurous and unexpected.
This location requires an adventurous spirit and some energy! We had to do a little hike about a mile long to get to the ruins to start our session. I like using the time to get to know the senior and learn what makes them tick.
Two Locations Create More Variety in a Senior Session
One of my favorite things about being a Walton High School senior photographer is creating a gallery that shows more than one side of a senior’s personality. After the more rustic first portion of the session, we changed locations and outfits for a completely different feel. There are so many gorgeous places to plan our sessions in near East Cobb. (Like this Roswell senior session, just a few steps down the road!)
The open park gave us softer backgrounds, little pops of wildflowers and plenty of room to play with movement and different poses. Her darker casual outfit also created a great contrast with the lighter, more romantic look from earlier in the evening.

As sunset approached, the light became warmer and softer—which is exactly why I schedule outdoor senior sessions around golden hour. That last stretch of evening light gives portraits a warmth that is difficult to recreate at any other time of day.
I also love making sure we get a mix of full-body portraits, close-ups, seated images and more creative compositions. The goal isn’t just to come away with one great yearbook-worthy portrait; it’s to create a gallery that actually feels like you.
